Two teenagers inflicted Molde with the team’s first late goal of the year when Odd surprisingly secured a 2-1 victory in the Eliteserien. The decision came after a keeper mistake.
The guests from Skien took the lead towards the end of the game 20 minutes before the end. Molde’s goalkeeper Jacob Karlstrøm waited too long for a rebound and hit opponent Mikael Ingebrigtsen. The ball ended up with Faniel Tewelde, who easily gave Odd 2-1.
The 17-year-old had just entered the field as a substitute. Before the break, Bork Bang-Kittilsen (19) provided the equaliser.
Molde had several great chances in the first half of the second half, but struggled to create the big ones in the final phase.
The win was Odd’s first in Molde since April 2018.
Before the break, MFK dominated and played the opponent low without sparkling. The 1-0 lead came when, after just over half an hour, Kristian Eriksen shot into the crossbar via the goalkeeper’s gloves to André Hansen and put in the rebound. He almost did that at the finish line.
The score was Eriksen’s third of the year in the Eliteserien. No one else has reached that number.
Odd was behind for just a couple of minutes before Bang-Kittilsen made it 1-1. After a corner, the youngster missed the first kick, but that gave him room to point-blank the ball into the nearest corner.
Molde remains on nine points from four games, while Odd climbed to seven points.
Wednesday’s game was actually supposed to have been played at the beginning of August, but was brought forward to give Molde less of a burden when the club is probably fighting for another group stage in the Europa League.
Molde’s next task is away against reigning champions Bodø/Glimt on Sunday. It will be the year’s first heavyweight duel in the Eliteserien. Earlier in the evening, Odd will prepare himself at Brann i Bergen.
