Interview with Canavese publication
1) I have been frequenting the Middle East and, specifically, denied Palestine, since 1967, when I was Paese Sera’s correspondent to the Six Day War. I have dealt with the various phases and situations of the Palestinian drama starting from that war and passing through the two Intifades, the 1980s and 2000s, the refugee camps in Lebanon, Jordan and Syria, the two Israeli wars against Hezbollah in Lebanon and, precisely, Gaza. I followed the first attack on Gaza, by land, sea and air, called Cast Lead, which could be called a dress rehearsal for the ongoing war.
2) The situation in Palestine these days is marked above all by the unprecedented and limitless extermination of the population of Gaza and, to a more limited extent for now, by that of the West Bank. The far-right government of Netaniahu is evidently aiming to physically eliminate the entire population, after having tried to do so with a creeping genocide starting from the unjust partition proposed by the UN in 1947. The formidable Palestinian resistance, with the consensus it has aroused throughout the world, and the parallel destruction of the moral stature of the Zionist state, have however changed the balance of factors in play. The moral victory of the Palestinians cannot historically fail to be followed by a political one. We are at an epochal fall in the attempt of the rich and powerful to impose their dictatorship on the rest of the world. It is to this profound crisis in which the Zionist State finds itself, accentuated by the revolt of its inhabitants against Netaniahu’s subversive attempt to overthrow the judiciary, that the desperate Israeli attempt, by dint of terrorist operations against Syria, Iran, Lebanon, to involve other countries in the region and, therefore, the United States in the conflict, in a general conflagration that shuffles the cards..
3) Terrorism is, since the establishment of the Zionist state on the rubble of the Palestinian nation, entirely on the Israeli side. Any definition to the contrary is pure propaganda that works in the West, in the Anglosphere and in the EU, but not in the rest of the world. Today Israel is accused before the International Court of Justice of genocide and crimes against humanity, an accusation brought by one of the states that freed themselves from the same apartheid under whose yoke Palestine has always been forced. Fortunately, it is from Israel itself that the voices came to us that disproved the accusation of terrorism against Hamas with which they wanted to take away the Palestinians’ right to fight for their own liberation according to the principles enshrined in the UN Charter itself. The majority of the victims of October 7 were attributed, by these rumors, to the Israeli armed forces themselves who, to prevent the taking of hostages. they hit Israeli citizens and soldiers indiscriminately. Just ask Haaretz, Israel’s most authoritative newspaper, Israeli air force officials, as well as numerous Israeli witnesses. Having failed the grotesque hoax of the 40 decapitated newborns, when in that situation there were none, we now resort, with the support of alleged information bodies such as the New York Times, to the classic accusation of the rapes that the Hamas fighters are said to have committed during a fire battle that lasted less than two hours. Rape is the propaganda weapon that one would like to be the most effective and which today is the most worn out and discredited. Rather, keep in mind the testimonies and documentation of the torture suffered by Palestinian children and adolescents, held in prison for years by the thousands, without charge, without defense, without trial. And for whose liberation Hamas has committed itself by taking hostages.
4) Neither the hypothesis of the total elimination of 7.5 million Palestinians, plus five with the right to return from exile, a numerical majority in Palestine, nor that of maintaining a Zionist state imposed by force, nor the hypocritical proposal of the two states, for which for many years the Palestinians have been eliminated from every possibility, even if only geographical, of state existence. The correct, democratic solution, respectful of the rights of the Palestinians, is the single state of “Palestine” which sees Jews and Palestinians living together, once the racist, intolerant, fascist immigrant component has returned to their countries of origin, represented primarily by the 750,000 settlers who, after all, they have no historical connection with that land.
5) The positions of Italy and the European Union are a banal and servile flattening of Israel’s claims, supported militarily and politically by the USA. They are positions without legal, social, economic or human legitimacy. They are positions of mercenary entities devoid of autonomy and dignity that only serve to perpetuate wrong and tragedy. But they matter little. The events in Gaza have determined the growth in the world of a coalition of peoples and states that are no longer willing to tolerate an imperialist tyranny which has its symbolic manifestation in the Zionist lump.
