The number of burnings and fires exceeded 7,500 requests in the municipality of Lamego, in 2023, an increase compared to the previous year.
This increase is “justified by the awareness-raising actions promoted by the Forestry Technical Office, in partnership with the Republican National Guard and the Public Security Police”, says the Lamego Chamber, in a statement.
In order to prevent risky behavior, burning is subject to prior communication to the municipality. Burning, which normally makes it possible to clear land and renew pastures, is only permitted after licensing by the City Council.
To carry out this activity, the population must access the website – www.procivlamego.pt -, contact the number 254 609 600 or go to the parish council in the area of residence.
The councilor responsible for Municipal Civil Protection Services, Fábio Duarte, considers it extremely important to maintain and reinforce awareness campaigns, in partnership with civil protection agents, who cooperate in this matter.
The mayor also calls on “residents to use maximum caution when carrying out these activities and avoid risky behavior”.
