The Autostrade per l’Italia Group’s project for the construction of the fourth dynamic lane in the urban section of the A4 Turin-Trieste continues as scheduled. In recent days, a further 2.5 km have become passable, starting from the Cormano junction and up to km 132+315, near the Lambro Service Area. With this new opening, approximately 70% of the stretch affected by the entire upgrading project becomes passable.

The dynamic fourth lane represents a fundamental intervention for the urban section of the A4, characterized by a high traffic density, with 140,000 vehicles per day on average, and with peaks of up to 200,000. A value three times higher than the standard recorded in the rest of the network managed by Autostrade per l’Italia.

The project was conceived with the aim of combining the need to widen the motorway artery with the characteristics of the territory, which is characterized by a high anthropisation index. The technology developed by Movyon, leader of the technological development of the ASPI Group, represents an absolutely innovative solution, which without resorting to widening the roadway allows for the optimization of the available road space, opening or closing the fourth lane depending on the identified needs.

The platform manages three areas in a coordinated manner: flow analysis, reporting to users in transit of information relating to the use of the lanes, detection of all events with possible repercussions on traffic thanks to the Automatic Incident Detection system. From the opening of the first section of the fourth lane to today, according to the monitoring carried out by Movyon itself, there has been a significant improvement in travel times which is expected to increase further with today’s opening.

The new infrastructure, in addition to guaranteeing a better travel experience, also generates benefits in terms of environmental impact: for every hour of activation of the fourth dynamic lane on the approximately ten km for which it is planned, a saving of approximately 1.5 tonnes of CO2.
