Munich: Alfons Schuhbeck is now a free walker – the background – Munich

Bavaria’s most famous prison inmate had not even spent half a year in the Landsberg am Lech correctional facility before he was granted relaxation: Alfons Schuhbeck was transferred to Andechs on Monday, to the Rothenfeld prison. Here he experiences a relaxation of his detention – like Uli Hoeneß once did.

Monika Groß, head of the prison in Landsberg, confirmed Schuhbeck’s move when asked. He is housed with 26 other inmates in Rothenfeld, where there is space for a total of 101 prisoners. “For data protection reasons and to protect personal rights, no further information will be provided,” she explained. Schuhbeck’s lawyers also did not comment. The Bild newspaper first reported on the relocation.

A spokeswoman for the prison told the radio station Antenne Bayern that only prisoners who “have no fear of escape or abuse” may be transferred to the open prison in Rothenfeld. The decision on this and on admission to release rests with the responsible department head.

Schuhbeck began his prison sentence last August. The “Ginger Pope”, known far beyond the borders of the white sausage equator, was sentenced to a prison sentence of three years and two months by the Munich I Regional Court in October 2022 for tax evasion amounting to millions. The restaurateur had evaded taxes for years in his luxury restaurants “Orlando” and “Südtiroler Stuben”.

This was followed by bankruptcy and scheduled court proceedings, which were also supposed to involve the subletting of Schuhbeck’s private apartment. Apparently Schuhbeck has come to an agreement with his landlords. Schuhbeck’s spice shop is also located in the Haus am Platzl, right next to the Hofbräuhaus. According to picture information, he is supposed to work here as an outdoorsman.
