Having fled overseas from China’s Far West, hundreds of Uighurs were stalked by the Beijing authorities in the country that had welcomed them, arrested by complacent governments and repatriated to Xinjiang, where they all ended up in both prison and so-called re-education camps. The mockery for these victims of Western China’s Muslim minority is that the places from which they were sent home are mostly Islamic countries, such as Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, all three important trading partners of Beijing.
