Narcos Maestro Makes New Peaky Blinders Style Series

Jakarta – Chris Brancato, the creator of Narcos, is developing a Peaky Blinders-style series about an Irish gang in New York. Wow, what will it be like?

Brancato mentioned the plan on TV Festival Series Mania. The project is also currently in early development with MGM+.

He admitted that the initial stages included developing the script for the series. But he promises a terrifying Irish gang tale set in the ’70s.

He declined to give many details about his new project, except to mention the show’s tentative title The Westies.

Martin Scorsese famously portrayed the same era in 2002’s multi-Oscar nominee Gangs of New York, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Daniel Day-Lewis.

The film follows the rise of Irish gangs, fueled by mass immigration in the late 19th century and their power struggle with other criminal groups in the area surrounding the Five Points neighborhood of lower Manhattan.

It’s not just about Irish gangs, Chris Brancato is also sketching the second season of Hotel Cocaine, a Casablanca-style show about a Cuban exile who becomes the manager of a hotel, the glamorous center of Miami’s cocaine scene in the late 70s and early 80s.

Hotel Cocaine is a great crime drama that Brancato made back in the day that captures the starting point of the cocaine epidemic.

“I looked for themes like hedonism that were part of American and world culture at the time,” Brancato said.

Brancato, who has had a career spanning three decades, created Narcos, a hugely successful series with Netflix. Narcos was one of the first successful series to be partially filmed in non-English languages, followed by hits such as Squid Game and Money Heist.
