The Nasdem Party banner is installed on the wall of the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta, Sunday (16/7/2023). The Nasdem Party held a Nasdem Change Alert Call event which was attended by thousands of sympathizers and Nasdem Party cadres throughout Indonesia.

JAKARTA, KOMPAS — The resignation of the legislative candidate from the Nasdem Party, Ratu Ngadu Bonu Wulla, during the ongoing national recapitulation stage without any open, transparent and accountable reasons and being able to be held accountable to the public is seen as a form of playing with or deceiving the people’s voice. The public or constituents should consider not electing such politicians in the future.

The reason is that the people or voters of Ratu Ngadu Bonu exercised their right to elect Ratu Ngadu Bonu Wulla at the voting station, and not elect Viktor Laiskodat, who if the Queen resigns, then the legislative candidate in the next rank with a smaller number of votes will replace Ratu Ngadu Bonu Wulla . This was conveyed by the election law lecturer at the University of Indonesia, Titi Anggraini, when responding to the resignation of the Nasdem legislative candidate, Ratu Ngadu Bonu Wulla to the KPU, on Wednesday (13/3/2024).

According to Titi, it is possible for an elected candidate to resign from being elected in the election. The next process will be a replacement by the legislative candidate with the next most votes.

“The regulations in the Election Law or KPU Regulations both do not regulate what specific reasons for resignation are justified by statutory regulations. “Including checking and clarifying whether the resignation was truly based on the legislative candidate’s personal free will or because there was an element of external influence originating from the political party institution,” said Titi.

Previously, Ratu Wulla’s resignation letter was received by KPU member, August Mellaz, while leading an open plenary meeting to recapitulate the national vote count for Electoral District II NTT, Tuesday (12/3/2024). Ratu Wulla’s resignation has had an impact on the potential for the next candidate with the most votes from Nasdem, namely former NTT Governor Viktor Laiskodat, to move to Senayan.

This sets a very bad precedent.

Because, based on the results of the KPU recapitulation, Ratu Ngadu Bonu Wulla, legislative candidate number 5 in Dapil II NTT, received 76,331 votes. The wife of the former one-term Regent of Southwest Sumba, Markus Dairo Talu, is ahead of the Nasdem Party’s number 1 legislative candidate, Viktor Laiskodat, former Governor of NTT, with 65,359 votes in support.

Just be a vote collector

Titi continued, the withdrawal of legislative candidates at the stage of the national recapitulation process which was already underway without any open, transparent, clear reasons could be said to be simply collecting party votes. The votes he received were not meant to fight for the aspirations of the people who had voted for him at the TPS.

Therefore, continued Titi, the public or constituents should consider not electing politicians like Ratu Ngadu Bonu Wulla. This is because the people’s voice is made to seem worthless and the mandate given by the people seems to be being toyed with without considering the aspirations behind it all. “This sets a very bad precedent,” he said.

The KPU will then appoint Viktor Laiskodat as the elected legislative candidate following the resignation of Ratu Wulla and will then be appointed as a member of the DPR for the 2024-2029 period.

With the resignation of Ratu Ngadu Bonu Wulla, Ratu Ngadu’s votes will still be counted as part of the party’s total valid votes and her position as the elected legislative candidate will be replaced by the candidate with the next most votes from the Nasdem Party. This means that Viktor Laiskodat has the potential to replace Ratu Ngadu in the DPR seat.

“The KPU will then appoint Viktor Laiskodat as the elected legislative candidate following the resignation of Ratu Wulla and will then be appointed as a member of the DPR for the 2024-2029 period,” said Titi.

Previously, the Secretary General of the Nasdem Party, Hermawi Taslim, was reluctant to explain the reasons why Ratu Ngadu Bonu Wulla withdrew from the list of candidates for DPR legislative members for the 2024-2029 period. According to him, the authority to explain the reason was Ratu Wulla because the Nasdem Party only made a letter covering the resignation.

“So, we (Nasdem Party) only convey the aspirations of the Queen Mother. If you want to know the contents of the letter, ask the KPU. (By) Because it’s someone’s letter, how can I tell it to other people, that’s not allowed,” said Hermawi (Kompas.id, 13/3/2024).
