National mourning in honor of Jacques Delors

by admin

The President of the Republic gave his agreement to the Government Decree that sets for tomorrow, January 31st, a day of national mourning in honor of Jacques Delors. The date coincides with a tribute ceremony that the European Commission is promoting, also tomorrow, in Brussels.

President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa had already participated in the funeral ceremony in Paris, on January 5th, promoted and invited by President Emmanuel Macron.

As he mentioned in the note published on December 27th, he was a “great mentor of the evolution of the Communities towards a European Union, mobilizer of the great reforms of the 80s and 90s, institutional and financial, of the enlargement to Portugal and Spain, Jacques Delors embodies for many Europeans the European construction itself.”
