How will the Nations League 2024/25 work?
During the league phase, each team plays against the other teams in the group twice in their respective group (away and home).
With the start of the 2024/25 edition, the UEFA Nations League will have an additional knockout round, which will be played in March. The group winners and runners-up in League A will play the quarter-finals with two legs, and the four winners of these duels will qualify for the finals in June 2025.
The fourth-placed teams in Leagues A and B are automatically relegated to Leagues B and C respectively. The two lowest-placed, fourth-placed teams in League C are relegated to League D.
The four group winners of Leagues B and C and the two group winners of League D are automatically promoted to Leagues A, B and C respectively.
The third-placed teams in League A and the runners-up in League B play promotion and relegation play-offs in the first and second legs, the same applies to the third-placed teams in League B and the runners-up in League C.
There will also be promotion and relegation play-offs with a return leg between the two best fourth-place teams in League C and the two runners-up in League D.
This expansion of the game calendar only affects a small number of teams; the other teams can start with the European Qualifiers in March.
