New York, shooting in Times Square: a 4-year-old boy and two women injured

by admin

Two women and a four-year-old boy were injured in Times Square, New York, in a shooting of unknown causes. The shooting occurred just before 5pm at the intersection of 7th Avenue and 44th Street, a police spokesman told AFP.

The three victims were admitted to a Manhattan hospital, but would not be life threatening. No arrests have yet been made and police said “the investigation is still ongoing”, without providing further details. “Fortunately, these innocent bystanders are in stable condition,” Mayor Bill se Blasio tweeted.

“The perpetrators of this violence are wanted and the police will bring them to justice. The flow of illegal weapons arriving in New York must stop,” he added. Times Square, one of New York’s pre-pandemic tourist destinations, has changed since all theaters closed in March 2020. According to a recent Times Square Alliance report, the area recorded 25 violent crimes in the first quarter of 2021, against 17 of the same period of 2020. At the end of March, the video recording of an attack on a 60-year-old of Asian origin in the district had deeply shaken public opinion.
