Nick Cave: The singer in an interview about his ceramic art

Nick Cave has no eyes for his guest yet. With a fine brush he dabs black whiskers onto a horned head. In front of him on the work table is a clay figure about 30 centimeters tall, still almost completely white – a devil who is currently riding off to war. It comes from his 17-part series The Devil: A Life, which will be exhibited and for sale at the Hufkens Gallery in Brussels in April. Cave is wearing a smock, pure white, underneath which appears the pop figure we know: black suit, white shirt, tie and loafers. Even at 66, his hair and eyebrows are still jet black. It’s no longer a secret that he dyes them.
