Nikki Haley wanted to give it her all in South Carolina. According to the donation tracker AdImpact, their people have invested $15 million in election commercials since the beginning of the year. South Carolina is the state where she was born and raised and served as governor for six years. If she were to win the Republican Party primaries anywhere, it would probably be there.

But it didn’t happen like that. When Republicans in South Carolina voted this Saturday to decide who should be their presidential candidate, Haley only came in second place – which is also the last. Because apart from Haley, there is only one person left in the race: Donald Trump. Compared to her, he rarely showed up during the local election campaign. His election campaign for South Carolina cost a little over a million from the beginning of January until now, a fraction of the amount Haley had invested in the same period. His broadcast share was therefore only seven percentHaley had 93.
