The office will be co-located with the local newspaper Arbeids Rett in the center of Røros.

NRK is strengthening its presence in Trøndelag and establishing a new local office in the mountain region, writes NRK in a press release.

With this, NRK is expanding its presence in Trøndelag.

– We also want to raise the Sami voices and perspectives from the mountain region and Trøndelag in general. NRK Trøndelag has a particular responsibility for the Southern Sami language and Southern Sami culture. In this sense, it is entirely appropriate that we strengthen our presence in the south of Trøndelag – which has long been a blind spot in our ongoing coverage, says news editor Nareas Sae-Khow in NRK Trøndelag in the press release.

NRK Trøndelag currently has a newsroom in Trondheim and local offices in Brekstad, Steinkjer and Namsos.

Closer on

– The goal is for us to be closer to the people and life in the mountain region, so that we are able to tell stories from here that really matter and engage, says Sae-Khow, who points out that the new local office is also important in a larger context:

– The fact that we are co-located with the Labor Court in Røros is an example of NRK’s new line of opening up our organisation: We will collaborate more, and share our expertise with all the important local, editor-managed media in the future. We at NRK will do what we can to contribute to the great media diversity we have in Norway.

More Sami

With the establishment of the new local office, the collaboration between NRK Sápmi and NRK Trøndelag is further strengthened, NRK points out in the press release.

– This is a very important measure to cover the Southern Sami population even better. The Southern Sami area stretches from Saltfjellet in the north to Femunden in the south. There is a lot of important happening related to the Southern Sami. The waterfall is just one example of that. That is why it is important that we strengthen ourselves, says director Johan Ailo Kalstad of NRK Sápmi.
