FC Sion are only two victories away from direct promotion to the Super League. Six days after its mortifying elimination in the Swiss Cup, FC Sion was able to bounce back with panache.
At Tourbillon in front of 5,080 spectators, the Valais won 4-0 against Wil. Faced with the Saint-Gallois who came with the sole objective of defending the 0-0 as long as possible, they had the good taste to strike from the start. Dejan Sorgic opened the scoring in the 7th on a serve from Cristian Souza before doubling the lead in the 34th with a magnificent backheel landing, this time, from a cross from Numa Lavanchy.
Reto Ziegler, from the penalty spot, and Souza also had to score before the break. Thanks to this 20th victory in the championship, FC Sion still has a 3-point lead and a better goal difference over Thun. The Bernese won 5-1 in Baden after conceding the opener.
FC Sion will have to make two trips to Aarau and Bellinzona before concluding its season with the visit of Schaffhausen.
