Only when I’m dead will I stop being a KAC fan

Report. The KAC has the best chance of becoming Austrian ice hockey champions again this year. The fans remain loyal to the club regardless of success. A video documentary looks behind the fan passion.

Life hasn’t been easy for Hansi Radl in recent years. He himself lives with a disability and needs a walking aid, while his wife is seriously ill. But there is one point in his everyday life that makes him forget his burdens: the moments when he can cheer on his KAC. And he also confesses: “Only when I’m dead will I stop being a KAC fan.”

Literally at his side is Nicole Fischer, who can let her emotions run wild in the Heidi Horten Arena. The space in the curve allows her to ignore everyday life for a few hours and pursue her passion with her second family. Irmi Kelz, however, spares no expense or effort to make her membership in the fan community visible. Her entire apartment is full of merchandise. She only buys clothes and furnishings in red or white and the KAC logo is a must on her car. Whether anger, tears or shouts of joy – the St. Veiterin stands with “her” club through thick and thin.

Documentary: Your hearts beat for the KAC

What makes the KAC so unique that it can give people not only entertainment but even the courage to live? We were allowed to accompany three KAC fans for a video documentary – in the stands, on the ice, but also at their workplaces and even in their homes. They explain their love for the game and the club – and also talk about the lesser-known fan activities that have nothing to do with the loud crowd in the fan curve.
