Overwhelming! Gustavo Petro called the disqualification of María Corina Machado an “anti-democratic coup”

The president of Colombia, President Petro, has condemned the political disqualification of opposition leader María Corina Machado in Venezuela, calling it an “anti-democratic coup.” During the inauguration of Judge Gloria Gómez, President Petro criticized the decisions of Venezuelan authorities as undemocratic.

President Petro highlighted the similarities between the political situations in Venezuela and Colombia, stating that political rights are violated in both countries. He urged for recognition of these violations and for criticism of unconventional events happening in other countries like Peru, Paraguay, Honduras, and Colombia.

The Colombian Government has also expressed concern about the difficulties faced by the Venezuelan opposition in registering their candidacies for the upcoming presidential elections on July 28. These concerns were voiced through the Foreign Ministry.

The political developments in Venezuela have sparked international debate and condemnation, with Colombia joining the chorus of voices calling for respect for democratic processes and political rights.
