Thus, in a long post on Facebook, the president of the 5 Star Movement Giuseppe Conte he lashes out Giorgia Meloni regarding the draft of the new pandemic plan drawn up by the Ministry of Health. In the document, in fact, i Prime Ministerial Decree (the decrees fired directly by the prime minister) are defined as “central instrument of government” of a possible new health emergency, despite the fact that, when she was in opposition to the Conte II government, the leader of the Brothers of Italy defined them as “blatantly unconstitutional” and antidemocratic. Not only that: the plan identifies i vaccines as “the most effective preventive measures” and provides, “in emergency conditions”, the possibility of “imposing limitations on the freedoms of individuals in order to protect the health of the community”. That is, in practice, it endorses everything that Meloni contested during the pandemic.
So now Conte has a good time underlining the inconsistency: “It’s really true, time is a gentleman“, he writes. “Yesterday Meloni threw fuel on the fire of a social drama, regardless of the numerous difficulties that we were forced to face every day. Today, however, that strategy that made her so indignant and turned purple in her speeches in Parliament has become the “his” model. So, on the sly. Without even apologizing. And he insists: “In a surreal short circuit, the same Meloni majority that copies the tools used by my Government in the pandemic sets up a Commission of inquiry on Covid to be used as a firing squad against me and the Conte II government” (in fact, any reference to the responsibilities of the Regions governed by the centre-right has disappeared from the body’s competences).
“They think they are putting us in trouble. Deluded. Please take a seat. Personally, I have already gone to the competent offices, the courts, coming out with your head held high“, adds the former prime minister, in reference to the dismissal of the investigation opened (also) against him in Bergamo for the Covid deaths. “We will continue to fight to ascertain responsibility for the lack of structures and management of our healthcare system. I am the first to want to know why, after governments that have cut back on healthcare for years, I found myself in 2020 with healthcare on its knees in the face of that virus. But we don’t want to talk about this. Meloni and associates have such a fear which have shamefully kept the management by the Regions, which are largely centre-right, outside the scope of the Commission’s investigation. We know: they hate both the courts and transparency. They were screaming in 2020 and today they continue to cut investments in healthcare compared to GDP. We will fight until the end to denounce the cowardice of the “fake patriots“”, conclude.
