Deportivo Pereira beat Fortaleza CEIF this Thursday, in a short, complicated and suffered match at the Hernán Ramírez Villegas stadium. The Matecaña took the opportunity to hunt down the tanned team in the BetPlay I-2024 League standings, in a match on date 5.

The expulsion of coach Leonel Álvarez, after a scuffle with referee Juan Pablo Alba, complicated Pereira; but his players did not give up and continued fighting to be superior to their rival and try to surpass them.

Before the end of the first half, a shocking injury occurred that affected Fortaleza, as Daniel Rivera, their captain, left after a strong collision with Germán Lencina and even left in an ambulance.

In added time, still in the first half, Darwin Quintero assisted Faber Gil, who finished from close range and made it 1-0 for Deportivo Pereira.

In the second half, the game entered into intervals, as it was cut short due to strong play and referee Alba’s decision to stop for each foul. The judge even regretted sending off Jean Pestaña with the help of the VAR.

At 82′, Pereira sealed the game thanks to a header from Lencina, who scored the 2-0 and accumulated his second goal with the Riseraldense team.

Thus, both teams have 7 points in the standings.
