Played on romance rumors to promote cinema success: – It worked wonderfully

The rom-com talkie “Anyone But You” rounded off 2023 with a bang, and the audience braved both darkness and Christmas strife to get a piece of the alleged affair between lead actors Sydney Sweeney (26) and Glen Powell (35).

The film secured Sony Pictures 210 million dollars at the box office, and the romance rumors may have some of the credit for its success. If so, everything has gone according to plan, we are to believe the actors.

– The two things you must have to sell a rom-com are fun and chemistryPowell said in a recent interview with The New York Times, via Deadline.

– Sydney and I have a lot of fun together, and we have a lot of natural chemistry. A lot of people want what’s on the screen off the screen too, and sometimes you just have to play with it a little – and it worked wonderfully. Sydney is very smarthe added.

THOUGHTFUL STRATEGY: Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney admit the romance rumors surrounding the theatrical film “Anyone But You” were good for box office sales.

It was in March 2023, during the filming of the film, that a number of paparazzi photos were leaked of Sweeney and Powell, who appeared to be enjoying each other’s company. Sweeney is engaged to restaurant owner Jonathan Davino, and Powell was in a relationship with model Gigi Paris at the time. Rumors of infidelity went viral on the internet, and they did not diminish when shortly afterwards it emerged that Powell and his girlfriend had gone their separate ways. Not to forget that Paris had allegedly unfollowed Sweeney on Insta (oh, the drama).

At the time, the duo merely laughed off the rumours, with Sweeney telling Variety that “Glen and I don’t really care”.

Well, at least now we know they knew what they were doing. Sweeney, who also had the role of the film’s responsible producer, says that she was very involved in the project – also in the marketing.

– I was involved in all conversations. I was in group chats. I probably kept everyone in Sony marketing and distribution up at night because I couldn’t get my ideas to workshe said.

– I wanted to be sure that we actively had a dialogue with the audience during the promotion of the film, because ultimately it is they who have created the whole story.

Amen.

The plot of “Anyone But You” is simple; Bea and Ben. Once they were dating, then they became enemies, and now they are going to pretend to be lovers again. Totally normal. The film is directed by the man behind “Easy A”, Will Gluck, based on a screenplay he has written in collaboration with Ilana Wolpert.
