Pressing Beijing’s House of Representatives to pass three Chinese human rights bills in one day | Peng Shuai | Zhang Gaoli | Uyghur Human Rights

[EpochTimesDecember92021](Epoch Times reporter Lin Yan comprehensive report) The US House of Representatives passed three bills related to human rights in China in one day on Wednesday (December 8), including against the Chinese Communist government’s violation of the human rights of Xinjiang Uyghurs And Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai.

The House of Representatives first passed the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act) by a vote of 428 to 1 on Wednesday afternoon, which prohibits the import of forced labor products from China’s Xinjiang region. The bill was passed unanimously by members of both parties in the Senate in July this year.

Then the second resolution was passed by a vote of 427 to 1, formally condemning the Chinese Communist government for continuing to “ongo genocide and crimes against humanity” against Uyghur Muslims, other religions, and minorities, and urged the president to call on the United Nations to investigate these allegations.

Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi (Nancy Pelosi) said on Wednesday: “If we do not speak for human rights in China because of business or economic relations, we will lose the moral authority to speak for human rights anywhere in the world.”

In an introductory statement issued early on Tuesday, she said: “By passing these three bills, the House of Representatives has issued a clear and direct message: The crime of the People’s Republic of China against Uyghurs constitutes genocide and must be stopped immediately.”

When US President Biden held a video meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in November, he directly expressed his concerns about the CCP’s practices in Xinjiang, Tibet, and Hong Kong affairs and broader human rights issues.

At that time, Xi Jinping responded that the democratic methods of various countries can be different. If they are excluded because of the different forms of achieving democracy, this is undemocratic in itself. He also stated that he does not approve of the US interfering in the internal affairs of other countries through human rights issues.

In his speech for the “2021 South-South Human Rights Forum” on Wednesday, Xi Jinping said that human rights are a sign of the progress of human civilization and that the Communist Party of China has always been a political party that respects and protects human rights.

VOA reported that the international forum is a large-scale publicity event co-sponsored and self-directed by the Information Office of the State Council of China and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Beijing has always denied that genocide occurred in Xinjiang, calling it a “century lie” that Western countries tried to suppress China’s development.

The advancement of the “Prevention of Forced Uyghur Labor Law” in the US Congress has not been smooth sailing. After the bill was passed unanimously by members of both parties in the Senate in July this year, the House of Representatives has not heard any progress.

Before the House of Representatives voted on the “Prevention of Forced Uyghur Labor Law” on Wednesday, Republican Senator Marc Rubio, the co-sponsor of the bill, issued a statement saying: “I am very pleased that the House of Representatives has finally taken action to combat Chinese Slave labor (product).”

“But the Biden administration and some large companies are still working to ensure that this bill will never become law. And they have complicated things here in the Senate. Anyone who helps them stop our work and hide behind procedural and technical issues. All deserve to be scolded,” he said.

An earlier report in The Washington Post stated that Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman (Wendy Sherman) urged members of Congress to slow down the bill banning imports from Xinjiang because the Biden administration tends to adopt a more targeted approach. To determine which goods are the products of forced labor.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki (Jen Psaki) refuted the report last week. She said: “We absolutely did not lobby against the passage of this bill in any way.”

The third item passed by the House of Representatives on Wednesday was the position resolution, which was passed unanimously by a vote of 428 to 0. The resolution believes that the International Olympic Committee (ICO) is helping to “legitimate” the Chinese Communist government’s Peng Shuai security statement, failing to abide by its own commitment to human rights.

The Biden administration announced earlier this week that it would not send government officials to participate in the February Winter Olympics, and at the same time urged allies to join the official boycott of the 2022 Beijing Olympics.

So far, the governments of Australia, Britain, Lithuania and Canada have stated that they will join the US-led diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics, but allow athletes to participate.

The Chinese Communist government has threatened to retaliate against the Biden administration for its diplomatic boycott of the Olympics.
