Created by Mauricio de Sousa Produções and designed by Mônica de Sousa, the Donas da Rua project aims to empower women of all ages through various initiatives that promote gender equality and female protagonism. This time’s chosen one is actress Carrie Fischer, best known for her iconic character, the Princess Leiaand the Star Wars saga.
Represented in her honor by Mônica, Carrie Fisher was an American actress, writer and screenwriter known worldwide mainly for her role in George Lucas’s intergalactic films. One of the highlights of her career was her fight for equal rights for men and women. During the filming of the features, as she was the only actress in a context full of men, Carrie had to fight for her rights and for the belief that female characters needed to be better developed. This movement involved bringing more credibility to Leia, through the improvisation of lines, questions about clothing and mainly so that fans could also recognize themselves in the saga, abandoning the cliché of the damsel in distress who needs to be saved by the heartthrob.

In addition to her film career, Fisher also faced personal problems, including mental disorders and drug addiction. The actress became an advocate for mental health, always fighting for society to recognize these illnesses and the need to address the issue openly. Carrie passed away at the end of 2016, but the impact she left behind is evident. The achievements that the actress achieved in her struggles resulted in transformations in cinematic representations and influenced generations in defending women’s rights and raising awareness about mental health.
