Agence France-Presse quoted a senior Pentagon official as saying on the 26th that the Russian army dispatched “more than 50%” of its troops deployed on the Ukrainian border, but encountered firm resistance from the Ukrainian army.

The British Ministry of Defense tweeted: “Russian forces continue to advance towards Kiev, with most troops currently about 30 kilometers away from the city center.”

At the same time, Britain also refuted reports by Russia that it had occupied the important city of Melitopol in southeastern Ukraine, saying that Ukrainian troops were still stubbornly resisting the enemy across the country.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy released a video on the 26th saying that Ukrainian forces had prevented the advance of the Russian army to Kiev, while sabotaging the Russian plot to overthrow him.
Zelensky thanked Russians who stood up to the war and called on them to keep putting pressure on Putin. “Stop those who lie to you, lie to us, and lie to the world. Thousands have died and hundreds have been captured.”
The attacked Ukraine has received extensive support from the international community. According to a British Sky News report on the 26th, 27 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom and some European countries, have provided military assistance to Ukraine.
