Rapper Killer Mike leaves the 2024 Grammys in handcuffs after winning three awards

Rapper Killer Mike left the 2024 Grammy ceremony in handcuffs and escorted by police, after winning three categories this Sunday night, during the pre-televised part of the ceremony. The information comes from reporter Chris Gardner, who filmed the scene and posted it on X (formerly Twitter). According to a police source interviewed by TMZ, he was involved in a fight with a security guard at the event.

“We’re told he’s not under arrest and cops are still trying to figure out exactly what happened,” says the story published on TMZ.

The Hollywood Reporter, the outlet where reporter Chris Gardner works, published that he was taken to a security room and would be released soon.

At around 10pm (Brasília time), the rapper made a post on X with the phrase: “thanks to God”.

Killer Mike won three awards during the pre-show, which handed out several Grammys before the main broadcast. He won in all three categories in which he was nominated: best rap song and best rap performance for “Scientists and Engineers” and best rap album for “Michael.” This is the sixth studio album of his career, released in June 2023.

“The only thing that limits your age is not being honest about your age or what you are doing,” said Mike, 48. “At 20 years old, I thought it was cool to be a drug dealer. At age 40, I started to live with the regrets and the things I did. At 45, I started rapping about it. At 48 years old, I stand here as a man full of empathy and sympathy for the things I have done.”
