[New Tang Dynasty News, September 22, 2021, Beijing time]A 6.0 earthquake occurred shortly after 9 am today (22nd) in southeastern Australia, with a depth of 10 kilometers. The power of the earthquake can be felt hundreds of kilometers away, and the emergency handling authority said it received a call for help from Dubbo, which was about 700 kilometers away from the epicenter.

Strong earthquakes rarely occur in southeastern Australia. At around 9:15 this morning (local time), the German Center for Geosciences originally issued an earthquake scale of 5.6, and later the Australian Geosciences Center revised it to 6.0.

The Bureau of Meteorology (Bureau of Meteorology) has not issued tsunami warnings for the main Australian islands, islands and territories.

Mark Holcombe, the mayor of Mansfield, a small town near the epicenter, said that there was no loss in the town, but the residents were a little surprised. It took a while before I came to realize what happened.”

“Interestingly, all the birds are going crazy, so this is a real sign that something is wrong.” Holcomb said.

Mansfield has a population of about 3,400 people and is located about 180 kilometers northeast of Melbourne, in the Victoria Alps.

Residents of Melbourne, the second largest city, rushed to the streets when the earthquake struck. Social media videos showed bricks falling from houses in Melbourne’s shopping district.

Parker Mayo, a 30-year-old coffee shop employee, told AFP: “We felt the shock when we first started working, and it was shaking so hard, everyone was a little scared.”

Another Melbourne resident said the earthquake was “terrible”.

The emergency handling authority stated that it received a distress call from Dubbo at the furthest point and dispatched firefighters and search and rescue personnel to assist. Du Bo is about 700 kilometers from the epicenter.

About 15 minutes after the earthquake, a second magnitude 4 earthquake was recorded near the epicenter. (Click to watch related video)
