The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP), which reached the threshold of entry into force earlier this month, is expected to become one of the focuses of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting this week. Observers believe that after the RCEP takes effect, it will help promote economic interconnection in the Asia-Pacific region, accelerate the process of regional economic integration, promote economic and trade cooperation and economic growth, and inject new impetus into regional economic recovery.

  Promote the multilateral trading system

The ASEAN Secretariat, the depositary of RCEP, announced on the 2nd that it has received the approval letter submitted by Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and 4 non-ASEAN members from Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The entry into force threshold is reached, and it will take effect for the ten countries mentioned above on January 1, 2022.

RCEP was formally signed on November 15, 2020. There are currently 15 member states whose total population, economic volume, and total trade account for about 30% of the world‘s total.
