DUBAI (Reuters) – Severe flooding caused road blockages in Dubai, the most populous metropolis in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on the 18th, two days after it was hit by record-breaking rainstorms. There are many challenges to overcome, such as removing objects and cleaning up flooded houses.

Recovery at Dubai International Airport has been delayed due to flooding of the runway, and the airport is extremely crowded. Although public transport has resumed, many roads remain flooded and heavy traffic jams are occurring.

Some supermarkets and restaurants in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi, are facing a shortage of products as they are unable to receive deliveries from Dubai.

The director of Dubai Airports told a local television station that he expected the airport to return to 60-70% of its normal schedule by the end of the 18th, and to be fully operational within 24 hours.
