Andy Borg probably didn’t expect this: Suddenly Reiner Calmund is standing with him in the “Schlager-Spaß” wine bar and makes the audience sway with the accordion.

Baden-Baden – Finally a new edition of “Schlager-Fuß mit Andy Borg” is flickering across the TV sets at home – and of course the name says it all again. Because the likeable Viennese has once again invited top-class guests. But Andy Borg (62) didn’t expect him: suddenly football legend Reiner Calmund (75) is at the door.

“I’m a big fan”: Reiner Calmund as a surprise guest at “Schlager-Fun with Andy Borg”

Andy Borg was about to tell the punchline to his joke when suddenly the set phone rings. “This is the pop fun talking, this is the anteroom talking,” the pop star reports somewhat awkwardly. “Hi Andy. Here is Reiner. Do you have time, I heard you’re making great music again. (…) Can I come over?” asks the voice on the other end of the line. Andy Borg is visibly confused, but of course invites the stranger to his wine bar. Before he can ask who called him, he hangs up.

Less than two seconds later the studio doorbell rings and standing in front of the door is none other than football legend Reiner Calmund. “Reiner Calmund. In Schlager fun. “I’m thrilled,” says Andy Borg happily. “I’m a big fan. I used to play the accordion myself,” reveals Calmund. This unknown musical talent naturally inspires the pop star.

Reiner Calmund also played at weddings, he continues. It wasn’t enough for a really big career, but he had fun. He then proudly chats about his weight loss success and Andy Borg congratulates him on the minus on the scales. But he can’t let the accordion pass go to waste, not in the “hit” fun.

“I always like it when someone visits us, then I happen to have prepared an accordion,” says Andy Borg and asks his audience: “Do we want to hear Calli playing the accordion?” The answer: thunderous applause. Of course, Reiner Calmund doesn’t need to be asked twice, but he warns: “Close the doors so that no one can escape.”

But as if he had never done anything else, the football legend straps on the accordion and plays the cult hit “Marmor, Stein und Eisen bruch” by Drafi Deutscher – Andy Borg, of course, provides lyrical support. An unusual combination, but one that creates a really good atmosphere in the SWR studio, even if Calli’s right hand barely moves over the keys. Is he playing playback?

Speaking of which: Around 40 years ago, Andy Borg became a star overnight on the “ZDF hit parade”. With the guitar in his hand, he performed “Adios Amor” – even though there is no guitar in the song. Now he explains how this came about.
