In search of the fifth Libertadores championship, River Plate began its journey by winning. Visiting Deportivo Táchira, Millonario scored 2-0 and started at the top of Group H of the continental competition.
Gradually, River Plate overcame the hosts’ momentum. With that, even in front of a full house, based on working on quick touches, he managed to establish a game volume to open the account.
However, the Argentine team did not have its aim adjusted. Something that, naturally, meant that goalkeeper Jesús Araque did not have a truly outstanding defense in the initial stage.
The Libertadores clash, in the complementary stage, came back much more balanced than what happened in the first half. At the same time, possession of the ball was concentrated in the central zone, leaving the duel with less chance of having its score changed in Venezuela.
To change the scenario of the match, Claudio Echeverri entered and demonstrated a notable positive impact in creating plays. However, right after a sequence of attacks with the midfielder in the creation, the riveristas also counted on luck to score. Borja’s cross left the ball in the middle of the area where Athony Uribe tried to cut it and hit Sebastián Boselli in the face, who accidentally found the net.
Taking advantage of their superiority, the Argentines capitalized on the good moment and closed the score with a true painting. From very far away, midfielder Nicolas Fonseca took a risk and threw a firecracker that covered Araque. 2-0 River Plate, final score.
