Roberto Cavalli was known for his extravagance in fashion

The renowned Italian fashion designer died this Friday (12). Roberto Cavalli, aged 83. He was in Florence, his hometown. The information was confirmed by the brand’s official Instagram page, but the cause of death was not disclosed.

“A life lived with love. It is with great sadness that today we say goodbye to our founder Roberto Cavalli. From humble origins in Florence, Roberto managed to become a name recognized worldwide, loved and respected by everyone. Naturally talented and creative, Roberto believed that everyone can discover and nurture the artist within themselves,” the post read.

According to the Ansa agency, Cavalli had been ill for some time, but his health condition had worsened significantly in recent days.

Born in 1940, he began his career in the 1960s after studying at the Florence Art Institute. In 1970, he founded his eponymous fashion house and had his first collection shown in Paris. Little by little, he built an empire, which today ranges from clothes to perfumes, accessories and even furniture.

A global fashion icon, Cavalli was known for being bold and extravagant. Throughout his career, he dressed thousands of celebrities, such as Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez, Madonna and even Anitta.

“It is the greatest honor of my career to work under your legacy and create for the brand you founded with so much vision and style. Rest in peace, you will be missed and you are loved by so many that your name will continue to be a beacon of inspiration for others, and especially for me”, lamented Fausto Puglisi, the creative director of the Roberto Cavalli label since October 2020.
