Young striker trained at the Club renewed contract
Sporting Clube de Portugal renewed its contract with Rodrigo Ribeiro, extending the relationship between both parties until 2028. The 18-year-old striker had a release clause set at 80 million euros.
Coming from Viana do Castelo, Rodrigo Ribeiro has been at Sporting CP since 2017/2018 and has been through all levels of training from the under-13s to the main team, for which he has participated in seven matches, under the orders of Rúben Amorim, divided for the last two seasons. This season, the under-20 international for Portugal has played ten games, scored two goals and made one assist for the B team in League 3.
At the time of the renewal, which was attended by president Frederico Varandas, the young graduate of the green and white Club did not hide his satisfaction at another step taken from Leão to his chest. “I am very happy for the trust that the Club is placing in me and I will respond as I always respond: with work and dedication”, he began by telling the Lions’ media, without also hiding the strong connection that has linked him to Sporting CP since too early.
“It’s my favorite club, I’ve been a member since I was a kid and of course it will always be my home. This renovation is further proof of that and prolonging this connection is always great and I hope it happens more often”, highlighted the 18-year-old footballer years.
Also aware of his youth, Rodrigo Ribeiro recognized that he sees his growth as “a process” and, therefore, maintains his focus essentially on “continuing the work that has been developed” in the different contexts provided by Sporting CP. “Every day I learn something from the coaches and all the people who help us here”, he added.
Then, highlighting the opportunities he had already experienced when playing for the Lions’ main team at the José Alvalade Stadium, the forward recalled “a feeling that cannot be described very well”. “It’s incredible, only those who feel it know. The fans are fantastic”, he praised, finally.
