Romário defends maintaining Perse — Senado Notícias

Senator Romário (PL-RJ) defended, in a speech in the Plenary on Tuesday (5), the maintenance of the Emergency Program for the Resumption of the Events Sector (Perse), created to offset the negative impact of the restrictive measures of covid-19 . The federal government determined the end of the program in the tax relief MP (MP 1.202/2023), gradually resuming, from April onwards, taxation on companies involved in these activities.

The senator highlighted the importance of Perse for strategic sectors of the country’s economy and highlighted that the program generated more than 234 thousand new jobs in 2023 and represents more than 4.5% of the national gross domestic product (GDP). According to him, it is necessary to maintain the program’s tax benefits. Romário emphasized that the discussion must go beyond financial aspects and consider the positive impacts on the generation of jobs and income, at a time of post-pandemic recovery.

— What is the point of ending a public policy that is working? What is the point of creating legal uncertainty by removing benefits that had previously been assured? The path is different. What I advocate is that this positive experience be transformed into a long-term, continuous public policy that creates a favorable business environment with a fair tax burden for a strategic area in which Brazil has a huge competitive advantage — he declared.

Romário also emphasized the importance of preserving legal security and avoiding losses to investments already made and in future plans in the events sector.

— I ask everyone to consult their bases, confirm this report that I bring to the Plenary and help us to think big, to think in the long term and maintain the benefits of Perse so that this recovery in the events sector is maintained and expands.
