by admin

The former general manager of Open Russia, Andrej Pivovarov, was arrested last night at Pulkovo airport in St. Petersburg as he was about to leave on a direct flight to Warsaw. This is what was reported on the activist’s Telegram channel. Later it was learned from the activist’s social profiles that a criminal case was initiated against him on May 29 by the Krasnodar Investigative Committee for participation in the activities of undesirable organizations.

“After the close of Open Russia, I planned to go on vacation, I got the tickets, I passed all the checks and when the plane was already taxiing for take off, it was stopped and I was detained by the FSB “, wrote Pivovarov in a letter published on social media.

On May 27, Open Russia, an organization founded by the former Russian oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsky, announced the dissolution in order to protect its supporters from possible prosecution for participating in its activities. A bill is being examined in the State Duma (lower house of Parliament) to aggravate criminal liability for this type of activity. Open Russia has not yet been recognized as an unwanted organization, but police believe it is linked through some coordinators to the Open Russia Civic Movement, dissolved in 2019, and to the US Open Russia Institute of Modern Russia.
