Sadiq Khan made history after being re-elected for the third time as the first Muslim Mayor in LondonEnglish.

Khan returns to lead the city of London, after defeating the Conservative Party candidate, Susan Hall, in local elections on Saturday (4/5).

He then said, “We are running a campaign in accordance with the spirit and values ​​of this great city [London].”

London, continued Khan, is a city that considers diversity as a strength and rejects right-wing populism.

During the campaign, Khan’s opponents were said to be echoing an Islamophobic narrative to take London from the Labor Party.

In October 2023, Susan Hall said some Jews in London were afraid of the divisive Khan.

He claims to live in north London and understands the excitement of the Jewish community.

“But there’s something else I can tell you, I know how scared some people are because of Sadiq Khan’s divisive attitude,” said Hall.

He then emphasized that if elected he would protect everyone, especially the Jewish community.

This statement then sparked anger in the British capital. The Jewish Labor Movement even called Hall’s comments political dog whistles.

The Muslim Council also opened its voice. They highlight the narrative of systemic Islamophobia in the Conservative Party.

Khan has been Mayor of London since 2016. So far, he has been known to be brave and tolerant.
