SAF-HOLLAND Here is the new intelligent digital system that monitors trailer tire pressure – Companies

SAF TIRE PILOT IQ is called SAF-HOLLAND’s new digital system designed to monitor trailer tire pressure. As soon as the pressure drops below the preset value, the system automatically restores it.

If the air leak is significant, SAF TIRE PILOT IQ sends a notification on the cockpit dashboard. Thanks to this innovative system, possible tire failures are reduced, fuel is saved and the GSRII 2019/2144 and ECE-R-141 requirements are met.

Like its predecessor, the new digital system helps drivers and fleet managers monitor and maintain tire pressure. “A warning light on the display in the driver’s cab warns the driver when the pressure drops 0.5 bar below the preset value.

When the pressure drops below this value, the system automatically restores air, without the need for driver intervention,” says Benjamin Irmscher, Product Line Manager Axles & Suspensions at SAF-HOLLAND. The System is available for all trailers with fixed and steering axles.

In addition to the warning message on the in-cab dashboard, SAF TIRE PILOT IQ offers detailed real-time analysis of the system status. Trailer manufacturers benefit from the simple installation of the system: the control module is compatible with all types of single and dual tire trailers with up to five axles.

Since the EBS system supplies power to the SAF TIRE PILOT IQ and transmits system messages to the dashboard, the control unit is installed close to it on the chassis. An end-of-line test (EoL-Test) can be easily performed via a digital assistant.

The EU Commission and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) have made tire monitoring systems mandatory. The directive will come into force for the approvals of new vehicles from July 2022 and for new registrations from 2024. Low pressure is the cause of 85% of tire failures. Consistently correct tire pressure improves road safety, extends tire life and effectively reduces fuel consumption.
