Santos FC is surpassed by Zenit and ends Equality Cup in third place

The Santos FC team ended its participation in the Equality Cup this Tuesday (13). Facing professional teams, the Santos Under-20 team, reinforced with members of the main squad, finished the competition in third place overall. In the last match, Alvinegro was beaten 4-1 by Zenit, from Russia. At the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium, in Doha, Qatar, Peixe’s goal was scored by Rodrigo Cezar.

The game

Nine minutes into the game, Zenit opened the scoring with a beautiful play from the right of the area. In triangulation from the top, Viacheslav Karavaev received a header from Ivan Sergeev and, close to the small area, finished off Gustavo Jundi to open the score.

The match continued to be very studied and Peixe arrived mainly in attacks on the right side, with the dribbling of striker Weslley, but without creating great chances of goal.

In the 30th minute, Andrey Motovoy received a shot from the right of the penalty area and crossed the ball to score the second goal, finding the net in the bottom left corner.

In the next minute, Weslley tried to respond with a powerful shot from the midfielder. The ball went aimlessly and crossed the baseline, to the left of the goal.

With 33 minutes, Cadu invaded the area after a quick triangulation from the right and crossed the ball, blocking the Russian defender on the goal line. Afterwards, the ball returned to the Santos number 7, who tried another cross. This time, the goalkeeper saved, but rebounded and the ball reached Ivonei, who finished wide, to the left of the goal.

Shortly afterwards, Weslley received the ball in midfield and sprinted towards the opponent’s area, dodging four markers. From the edge of the area, he hit low and stopped in a safe save from Mikhail Kerzakhov.

At 43, Weslley crossed the ball from the right and stopped when the opponent blocked it. In an attempt to pass the goalkeeper, the Russian defender almost scored an own goal, forcing Kerzakhov to stretch to make the save in his right corner.

In the second half, the Russian team changed the entire team and, after just ten minutes, Claudinho scored a beautiful goal to increase the lead on the scoreboard. In a shot from outside the area, the number 11 found the net in the right corner, with no chance of defending Gustavo Jundi.

In the 26th minute, Rodrigo Cezar passed a beautiful pass to Weslley on the right and the number 7 invaded the area. He crossed hard towards Bernardo and, at first, the number 25 finished as best he could, sending the ball into the goalkeeper’s hands.

With 31 minutes, Peixe pulled one back with a goal from Rodrigo Cezar. Felipe Laurindo, who had just entered, received a cross from Gabriel Bontempo on the left of the penalty area and headed it into the middle of it, with his first touch of the ball. It reached Rodrigo Cezar who, also with a header, headed the ball into the net from the right corner.

Ten minutes later, Santos had a corner on the left and Bernardo crossed the ball towards the first post. Rodrigo Cezar took the lead to finish, but sent it out, just a few centimeters from the post.

At 39, Zenit added final numbers to the scoreboard with a goal from the Brazilian, Pedro. He received a low cross from Mateo Cassierra and arrived to complete the ball into the net on the left of the area.

In the next minute, Peixe tried to respond with a shot from outside the area. From the offensive midfield, Balão kicked hard and sent the ball to the left of the goal.
