Novorizontino gave in the duel against Santos, this Sunday (18/2), in the ninth round of Paulistão. With a great first half and holding on as they did in the final stage, they made it 2-1 against Santos in Vila Belmiro.
Peixe took a while to get into the game, which only happened in the final stage, when they were already losing 2-0, with goals from Neto Pessoa and Rômulo (the man of the match). In the final stage, good changes by Carille and not so good ones by the visiting coach Eduardo Baptista, made Peixe wake up, reduce with Pituca, but not reach empoate.
Santos leads Group A, with 19 points. But it was Novorizontino who really threw the party. They reached 15 points in Group D and took the lead, overtaking São Paulo, who have 14.
Novorizontino tactical show
The first half was one for Santos to forget. Carille’s strategy, with Guilherme further back to equip William and Morelos, did not work. The latter was very apathetic. Thus, the team created little up front, managing to scare with showers and a free kick taken by Otero with a good save from Jordi.
In turn, Novorizontino gave a tactical bath. Defensively, he closed very well. When he launched counterattacks, he scored goals. In the first, a quick exchange of passes that started with goalkeeper Jordi, reached Rômulo. The pass was perfect for Neto Pessoa to finish, at 12. The scorer of the goal was injured shortly after (Jenison came on), but the team from Novo Horizonte continued very well. He sent one to the post with Waguininho (on a pass from Rômulo) and made the second when Rômulo got lucky in a tackle inside the area and hit it with class to make it 2-0.
Santos misses goals and loses the game
Santos returned with three changes. The entries of Hayner, Pedrinho and Furch had an effect. But twice Novorizontino got in João Paulo’s face. At best. At five minutes, when Santos attacked, goalkeeper Jordi defended and made a throw for Rômulo to beat Felipe Jonatan on the run and shoot for João Paulo’s defense with his feet.
