Met in the 22nd round of the ADMIRAL Bundesliga Austria Lustenau on the FC Blau-Weiß Linz. Even though it was no longer about the top 6 in the country, both teams needed points in the fight to stay in the league – the host team at the bottom of the table definitely needed more. After all, neo-coach Andreas Heraf’s team has already collected more points than in the autumn – most recently they even scored a 1-1 draw in Hütteldorf. The people of Linz were not allowed to celebrate a threesome in 2024. After the surprising draw against RB Salzburg, they recently suffered defeats against the two purple Austrias. And also today 0:2 in Bregenz.

Blue-white with a good start and lots of possibilities
After a phase of testing, it was the Linzers who were then able to claim increasing share of the field. But the fans had to wait a long time for the big highlights – the deep passes were too imprecise, the running paths were too uncoordinated. The best opportunity for the blue-whites came in the 13th minute. After ideal preparatory work from Joao Luiz, “Turban” Ronivaldo headed just wide of the goal from behind.
Gerald Scheiblehner’s team continued to set the tone and after a good 20 minutes they had the next double chance. First Krainz failed with a beam from a good 25 meters past keeper Schierl and in the second attempt Seidl aimed too precisely from an acute angle. The home team, on the other hand, didn’t come into their own offensively and when Maak had a complete blackout in the 32nd minute and Seidl couldn’t put the ball in the goal, the 0-0 result was more than happy for Lustenau.

It was only towards the end of the first half that the Heraf team was able to free themselves from their grip and keep the game neutral as the rain became increasingly heavy. The team went into the locker room goalless and Vorarlberg were able to carry the momentum of the last few minutes into the second half. The home team tried very hard to fight their way into the penalty area and succeeded after an hour. After a nice move via Gorzel, Diaby and Fridrikas, Lustenau came to a corner and that’s where it happened. Anderson headed the all-important 1-0 lead.
Linz had a hard time and didn’t really find their way into the game even after conceding a goal. Lustenau, on the other hand, continues to have opportunities – but Schmid was able to excel again and again. In the 80th minute it was the Stahlstadt team again! After a free kick, it was Seidl who forced Schierl into a brilliant save. But despite all their attacking efforts, the Linzers couldn’t score a goal today. The final decision for Austria came in stoppage time. Mikic made it 2-0 from a counterattack.
Lustenau is now heading into the qualifying group with a lot of tailwind. Blue and white, on the other hand, continues to stand still.
