SC Heerenveen coach, Kees van Wonderen was also happy to see his two foster children, Thom Haye and Nathan Tjoe-A-On made a sweet debut for Indonesian National team . He revealed that the two players had been looking forward to playing for the Garuda Squad for a long time.
Thom and Nathan are two new players for the Indonesian National Team. Both of them made their debut when the Indonesian National Team met Vietnam in a home-and-away format in Group F of the second round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifications in the Asia Zone.
Nathan played first when the Indonesian National Team won 1-0 at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Jakarta on March 21 2024. Then, Thom followed when the Garuda Squad humiliated Vietnam 3-0 at My Dinh National Stadium, Hanoi on March 26 2024 Then.
Interestingly, the two players managed to contribute assists when the Indonesian National Team beat Vietnam in Hanoi. Van Wonderen said that Thom and Nathan transmitted positive energy when they returned to the club.
“If you ask them about it (debuting for the Indonesian national team), both boys smile. They have been waiting for a long time and both got assists,” said Van Wonderen, quoted from the official SC Heerenveen website, Saturday (30/3/ 2024).
Nathan and Thom themselves could not hide their happiness after defending the Indonesian National Team. They shared a little story about wearing the Indonesian National Team jersey for the first time.
“It’s a really fun experience. I especially think home games are special, playing in front of everyone. When I heard the national anthem, I thought: now it all really starts. It’s beautiful,” added Thom.
