Cemetery Skyline: Everything Scandinavia has to offer

New supergroup Cemetery Skyline has released their first single called ‘Violent Storm’ and an accompanying music video. Cemetery Skyline are fully committed to classic gothic rock. Therefore, you can look forward to emotionally dark pieces like in the nineties. Included are Mikael Stanne from Dark Tranquility (vocals), Markus Vanhala from Insomnium on guitar, Santeri Kallio from Amorphis on keyboard, Victor Brandt from Dimmu Borgir on bass and Vesa Ranta on drums. A pretty dark line-up, then.

Editor’s recommendation

Markus Vanhala commented on the video on the Instagram-Kanal the band: “The weather forecast suggests a Nordic Gothic storm brewing. The mood of the song is strongly inspired by the late evening empty streets of Goth-emburg and their desperate stories of loneliness and being lost in the uniquely beautiful misery and sadness of Nordic Gothic.”

Catchy gothic rock

“It’s about pent-up frustration and how it can get out of control, the feeling of helplessness and how it can take over”added Stanne.

Keyboardist Kallio also described the song as a catchy gothic rock track: “It’s a simple, rocking song that represents the band perfectly,” he wrote on the social network.

The video, shot entirely in black and white and directed by Patric Ullaeus, shows a very special moment. “The video tells the story of how this strange group of friends literally come together”, i.e. Vanhala. Kallio adds: “We take a walk through an old cemetery and actually meet as a band for the first time.”

Cemetery Skyline will make their live debut at the end of August. However, as you would expect from a Scandinavian gothic mega-group, this won’t happen in this country. The band will perform in front of an audience for the first time at the John Smith Rock Festival in Finland.
