Flintbek: Runoff election for mayor on Sunday

In Flintbek (Rendsburg-Eckernförde district) a runoff election on Sunday will decide who will be the new mayor. The non-partisan Stefan Bettin is running against the non-partisan Ralf Tesler. In the first round of voting two weeks ago, Bettin received the most votes with almost 47 percent, while Tesler received around 27 percent. Bettin, who is supported by the Greens and the FDP, wants, among other things, to make Flintbek’s administration more digital and push forward the redesign of the town center. His opponent Tesler sat for the SPD in the Kiel council meeting for many years and is supported by the Social Democrats. The 57-year-old wants to work, among other things, for better walking and cycling paths as well as more shopping opportunities and cultural offerings. The polling stations are open until 6 p.m. | NDR Schleswig-Holstein March 24, 2024 8:00 a.m

Bomb defusal in Kiel on Sunday

In the Elmschenhagen district of Kiel, an aerial bomb from the Second World War was defused again on Sunday. It is located in the same allotment area as the four American bombs that were defused in Elmschenhagen two weeks ago. This means that around 3,200 people from around 1,600 households will have to leave their houses and apartments again. Federal highway 76 will also be closed in both directions between Wehdenweg and Wellseedamm. The police cannot estimate how long the defusing will take. Still free accommodation over Easter

According to the Schleswig-Holstein Tourism Agency, tourism professionals on the North and Baltic Seas as well as inland are pleased with the good booking situation over Easter. However, there is currently still free capacity in all regions. On Föhr, for example, Easter bookings have so far been slower than last year – only about every second accommodation is fully booked. The situation is similar on Amrum or in the region between the Danish border and Husum Bay (Nordfriesland district). On Sylt, in St. Peter-Ording, Holstein Switzerland or in the Duchy of Lauenburg, on the other hand, the accommodation is at least as good, if not better, booked than last year. | NDR Schleswig-Holstein March 23, 2024 10:00 a.m

Fire in Achtrup and Oering – warehouse and thatched roof house destroyed

Two fires kept hundreds of firefighters in Schleswig-Holstein on tenterhooks on Friday evening and Saturday night. According to the police, a 40-meter-long warehouse caught fire in Achtrup (Nordfriesland district). It housed hay and agricultural equipment. Two calves died, but helpers were able to prevent the adjacent cowshed from catching fire. In Oering (Segeberg district) a shed initially burned. According to police, the flames then spread to the adjacent 270-year-old thatched roof house. Around 200 firefighters from the entire region arrived, but they were unable to prevent the building from burning to the ground. AKN adjusts timetable due to staff shortage

After failures in recent months, the AKN is adjusting the timetable. According to the company, this should ensure more reliability and plannability. On weekends, the A2 line between Neumünster and Norderstedt (Segeberg district) only runs every 30 minutes instead of every 20 minutes on Saturdays. In addition, buses run here on weekends instead of night trains. It’s the same on the A1 line between Ulzburg-Süd and Hamburg-Eidelstedt. On Saturdays, only buses run the entire route on the A1 line, even during the day. According to a spokeswoman, fewer train drivers are needed on weekends. They could then take on additional shifts during the week. According to the spokeswoman, the reasons for the failures were the acute shortage of staff and several waves of illness. | NDR Schleswig-Holstein March 23, 2024 9:00 a.m

Agriculture in SH criticizes the Growth Opportunities Act

The one just decided in the Federal Council Growth Opportunities Act also provides relief for farmers. The agricultural associations in Schleswig-Holstein are not enthusiastic about this. The proposal goes in the right direction, but only in very small steps, says Stephan Gersteuer, general secretary of the farmers’ association in Schleswig-Holstein. Significantly more relief is needed, especially in terms of bureaucracy. The “Land creates connection” association in Schleswig-Holstein is more clearly criticized. For example, the package of measures cannot begin to compensate for the loss of diesel subsidies, criticizes chairwoman Uta von Schmidt-Kühl. Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU) is satisfied that the farmers are now being relieved. He demands that the federal government implement the package quickly. | NDR Schleswig-Holstein March 23, 2024 8:00 a.m
