Harianjogja.com, JOGJA—Everton midfielder Amadou Onana saved his team from defeat in a 1-1 draw at the headquarters of another bottom team, Crystal Palace, thanks to his goal a few hours after the Eagles recruited Oliver Glasner as their new coach, Tuesday (20/2/2024) early morning.
Jordan Ayew opened the scoring first for Palace thanks to his goal in the 66th minute of the match at Goodison Park, Liverpool. This result moved Everton up to 17th position in the standings with 20 points, while Crystal Palace was in 15th position with 25 points, according to the official Premier League page.

“It was a good goal from Jordan Ayew, but we couldn’t defend it. “There is a lot of quality and Glasner comes to a squad full of character,” said Palace assistant coach Paddy McCarthy, who together with Ray Lewington directed the team against Everton, as quoted by AFP.
“I’m sure the players realize that he is [Glasner] watch this match. There are many positive things he will see and I’m sure he can’t wait to be able to work,” he added.
Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has been plagued by a number of fitness problems this season, almost gave the visitors an early lead, but his header from Dwigt McNeill’s cross went wide.
Palace almost took the lead on the stroke of halftime when Jean-Philippe Mateta’s header was cleared by Ashley Young before crossing the goal line.
The deadlock was only broken in the 66th minute when Mateta won a duel with Jarrad Braithwaite and sent the ball to Ayew, who followed it up with a powerful shot into the far corner for a goal.

However, Everton secured a point in this home match when Onana jumped high to meet McNeil’s corner with a powerful header which resulted in the equaliser.
