Member of Commission XI DPR RI Masinton Pasaribu criticized the Directorate General Customs The Ministry of Finance is currently in the public spotlight after 3 viral incidents. Masinton believes that Customs and Excise should not implement regulations such as using horse goggles.
“Customs should not read the rules and apply them using horse glasses,” said Masinton when asked for a response, Sunday (28/4/2024).
Masinton then gave several incidents apart from the three incidents that went viral on social media in recent days. This incident, said Masinton, happened to Indonesian migrant workers working abroad.

“There have been several incidents, such as Indonesian migrant workers working abroad who wanted to send goods to their families in Indonesia, but instead the goods were detained and made processing difficult at Customs. Even though these goods were not in the category of goods to be bought and sold in Indonesia,” he said.
He said that he received many complaints from Indonesian citizens who had just returned from abroad regarding the Customs and Excise service system at various airports. According to him, many of them are often subject to fines and sanctions for personal belongings.
“Import duties and fines are often imposed on personal items brought by Indonesian citizens from abroad. In fact, if you add up the total presentation of state revenues from luggage carried by airplane passengers, the percentage is small. And that really makes people experience difficulties when they return to Indonesia,” he said. .
This PDIP cadre also asked Customs and Excise to focus more on large-scale revenues between countries. He also asked Customs and Excise to improve the work system.
“It is better for Customs and Excise to focus on state revenues with large scale trade volumes between countries. Customs and Excise must re-evaluate the work system, supervision and coordination between ministries and government institutions,” he said.
3 Viral Incidents Overrunning Customs

Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati held a meeting at the Soekarno-Hatta Customs Main Service Office on Saturday (27/4) evening. The meeting discussed various viral issues that appeared on social media related to Customs and Excise (BC) services.
“Tonight, I and the leadership of @beacukairi at the @bcsoetta office discussed various actual issues that have emerged in the public regarding BC services,” said Sri Mulyani in a post on her official Instagram, quoted on Sunday (28/4).
