Golden Romics of the XXXII edition
The illustrator and painter of superheroes awarded the Golden Romics and author of the poster of the XXXII edition of the Festival
Simone Bianchi, master of contemporary Comic Art, will be celebrated with the awarding of the Golden Romics during the XXXII edition of the Festival, scheduled from 4 to 7 April 2024 at Fiera Roma.
In the contemporary global panorama, Simone Bianchi is among the major interpreters of the most famous superheroes who have marked the collective imagination of entire generations. Superman and Batman, Iron Man and Spider-Man, Thor and Captain America, as well as Wolverine, the X-Men, whose costume line he redesigned for MARVEL, just to name a small part, have all passed through the fervent vein Bianchi’s inventiveness. All of her works are characterized by a distinctive pictorial trait that makes them unique and recognisable.
Born as a painter and illustrator, he was able to bring his particular pictorial art to comics which emerges in his predilection for chiaroscuro.
The original panels that Simone drew for Star Wars were purchased by George Lucas himself, who wanted them for his own collection. Bianchi was the first European to be commissioned to execute the Marvel Masterpieces Upper Deck project, the subject of two simultaneous exhibitions in 2018 in Italy and the United States. In 2020, Vincenzo Mollica curated the exhibition Simone Bianchi, Amazing Talent at Palazzo Vitelli in Sant’Egidio, exhibiting over 200 paintings by the artist. In 2023, at the “Granai” of the Fattori Museum at Villa Mimbelli in Livorno, the exhibition Simone Bianchi, The art of Superheroes, was set up with over 120 works, with over twenty unpublished works and an immersive room that transformed the Simone’s pictorial universe in a cinematic experience.
Simone Bianchi has also lent his brushes to music, painting the official poster of the TOOL concert in Miami and that of the Smashing Pumpkins in Denver, in 2022. In Italy he created the cover for Caparezza’s album EXUVIA, as well as the pop -up contained within the vinyl.
Author of the poster of the XXXII edition of Romics, Simone Bianchi will be the protagonist of a special meeting that will retrace the fundamental stages of his artistic career. A large exhibition will also be dedicated to his art which, on the occasion of Batman’s 85th anniversary, will also pay homage to the Dark Knight with a celebratory corner and a live painting performance.
