Sofia Vergara and Netflix are sued by Griselda Blanco’s family after series

Actress Sofia Vergara and Netflix are being sued by the family of Colombian drug trafficker Griselda Blanco due to the new streaming series, titled “Griselda”. In the production, which arrived on the platform this Thursday (25), Vergara plays the “godmother of cocaine”.

According to information from TMZ, Griselda’s children filed a lawsuit against the actress and Netflix, alleging unauthorized use of the family’s “image and likeness” in the series. The Blanco family tried to prevent the release of the new production, but was unsuccessful.

In the lawsuit, Griselda’s son, Michael, claims that for more than ten years he has been giving constant interviews to people who intend to turn his and his mother’s story into some type of production. With the consultations, the idea would be to create a series and a book, and the project had already been presented to Netflix.

Also according to the American portal, upon discovering that the streaming service was interested in the project, Michael asked that details from the interviews not be used. Despite this, the material would have served as the basis for the new series and Michael, nor Griselda’s other children, were paid for their “participation” in the production.

The lawsuit filed by the Blanco family does not question the use of an image of Griselda, a Colombian drug trafficker who died in 2012, but of her heirs. In other words, it is alleged that Netflix “stole” the story from Griselda’s children and used it without permission, violating “image and likeness” rights.

Neither Netflix nor Sofia Vergara have commented on the case. “Griselda” is available for streaming.
