Spearing was sent off when he started for the U21 team

Reading U21 – Liverpool U21 0-0 (0-0), Premier League 2: Jay Spearing started for Liverpool’s U21 side as Bobby Clark and James McConnell are busy playing for the injury-ravaged first team.

The 35-year-old ended up at the center of events in the goalless match away to Reading. At 0-0, the playing academy coach was sent off for a hand on the line, and the home team was awarded a penalty kick.

The attempt from eleven meters was saved by Liverpool goalkeeper Fabian Mrozek, and thus a point was brought home to Merseyside – thanks in part to Spearing, who did his best impersonation of Luis Suarez.

U21 manager Barry Lewtas was pleased with the team’s performance.

– I am satisfied with the way we fought through the game, and we also held together towards the end when we went down to ten men. We went down to the basement and fought for each other, and it was nice to see, says Lewtas.

– We will take the positive from here with us, he adds.

The following teams played the match for Liverpool:

Mrozek, Davidson, Williams, Pinnington, Miles, Nyoni, Spearing, Pilling (K. Kelly fra 84), Gordon, Kone-Doherty (Frauendorf fra 72), Musialowski (Pennington fra 90+5).

Unused reserve: sub: O. Kelly.
