This Sunday (28), Porto and Sporting were 2-2, at Estádio do Dragão, in the 31st round of the Portuguese Championship. Evanilson and Pepê scored for the home team and Viktor Gyökeres scored the goals for the capital team. The match was very busy and several opportunities arose throughout the 90 minutes.

With the draw, Sporting has 81 points, against 76 for Benfica and could be champion in the next round. The Dragons are in third place with 63 points. Porto returns to the field next Saturday to face Chaves, away from home. On the same day, Sporting hosts Portimonense at the José Alvalade Stadium.

The draw comes at a time when, after 42 years, Porto has a new president, according to the Portuguese press. On Saturday (27/4), at Estádio do Dragão, former coach André Villas-Boas overcame president Pinto da Costa, who had been in power for four decades.

Porto takes first half lead

The first half was very balanced between the two teams. However, after just eight minutes, Evanilson opened the scoring after receiving a beautiful pass from Pepê at the edge of the small area. Still, Sporting was not intimidated and had a few chances to equalize the score. However, at 41, Pepê hit a beautiful shot and increased Porto’s advantage in the first half.

Sporting reacts in the final minutes

In the second half, Sporting launched an attack in search of at least one goal, but came up against Porto’s solid defensive system. With the result in their favor, Sérgio Conceição’s team sought to control the game with possession of the ball and precise touches to use up time on the clock. However, in the space of just one minute, Viktor Gyokeres scored two goals and equalized in the 88th minute in a match that already appeared to be lost.
