Storm in Dubai: Was artificial rain responsible?

The United Arab Emirates experienced its heaviest rain in decades. Fake news has also spread.

How can such rainfall occur in one of the driest areas on earth? Many people suspect: It was weather manipulation. Sounds like a weird conspiracy theory – but it really exists and quickly spread on TikTok and Co. as the cause of the storm.

Was ist Cloud Seeding?

Clouds are made up of tiny water droplets or ice crystals. Attention, now it’s getting scientific: During so-called cloud seeding, chemicals such as silver iodide are distributed there. The particles accelerate the condensation of water vapor, which then falls to the ground as precipitation. Whether this method can effectively influence the weather is controversial.

Storms in Dubai: Cloud seeding the reason?

Experts rule out the influence of possible cloud seeding in the event of the rains in Dubai.

The intensity of the rain was record-breaking, but that is consistent with a warming climate.

Inevitably more moisture is created, which makes floods and heavy rain more and more severe. The United Arab Emirates’ National Center for Meteorology (NCM) rejected speculation about the possible use of artificial rain. The NCM “did not conduct cloud seeding operations” before and during the heavy rains.
