Rights manager at VG, Aslân Farshchian, talks about increased interest, but will not share figures.
For the second year in a row, VGTV broadcast the American Super Bowl, and large parts of the television broadcast on Sunday evening were devoted to American football.
Rights manager at VG, Aslân Farshchian, talks about increased interest in the American football broadcasts here in Norway.
– The Super Bowl is almost an entirely separate thing where we have noticed even more interest than last year, says Farshchian to Journalisten.
VGTV usually broadcasts NFL games on weekends and shows games from the regular season, the playoffs, and now the Super Bowl at the end of the season.
It is not only the sport that people are interested in, he says, but also the half-time entertainment helps to raise interest.
– It is also clear that part of it must probably be attributed to Taylor Swift. She gives an extra element to the broadcasts and is relevant to the entire editorial team, we see a good effect from that, says Farshchian.
NBA, NFL and football
In addition to having the rights to broadcast NFL games, VG has also been given the rights to broadcast NBA games throughout the year.
– Throughout the season, the two sports engage equally, but then there will be a very climax with the Super Bowl. And it is difficult for basketball to match, says the rights manager.

Farshchian does not want to say how many people caught the night’s broadcast on VGTV, but he is open about the fact that the broadcasts suit them well, because in addition to working well together with the other sports they have the rights to such as basketball and top football, they see that the NFL and Super Bowl broadcasts also reach the young viewers.
– It is very exciting. It is a success, I am very pleased, he says.
– Did you watch the broadcast yourself last night?
– No, I couldn’t do that. I have three young children, so that limits my ability to stay awake that long.
