The Grasshoppers lose 2-0 against Winterthur, are still not getting going and could soon slip into a barrage place. Was that one defeat too many for the coach?

It must hurt every Grasshoppers supporter what happened in the 73rd minute on the Winterthur Schützenwiese. Filipe de Carvalho shoots at his opponent without any compulsion, the ball flies from there to Nishan Burkart, and the entire GC defense watches perplexed as he flicks the ball past goalie Hammel into the goal from around 16 meters. It’s 1-0 for FC Winterthur and the preliminary decision.
The game will be completely decided in stoppage time. Laws causes an unnecessary penalty after a lost duel and a tug on the opponent, gets a yellow-red card, and Nishan Burkart converts for the second time. Winterthur wins against GC 2-0, the Schützenwiese is raging, and the people of Zurich are wondering how everything will continue.
An otherwise solid game is thrown away by individual mistakes. In contrast to the game against bottom-placed Lausanne-Ouchy, the Grasshoppers appear much improved. A new strike trio made up of the winter additions Batista Meier, Kameri and Abubakar is on the field from the start, they show good approaches, Kameri in particular always stands out positively in the first half.
Mercilessly efficient Winterthurians
But a basic idea of how to score a goal is missing. A lot goes to the wings, who try to cross into the penalty area with a number of crosses. Things became dangerous for the first time in the 18th minute when Schürpf finished off a cross ball; the ball flies just over the goal.
Even shortly after the 30th minute you can see the will of the GC offensive to stay more in the opponent’s half, but the will alone does not lead to a goal in the current GC. Nevertheless, Bruno Berner would later say that he particularly enjoyed the first half and that GC was the better team.
Maybe, but Winterthur is mercilessly efficient this evening, can substitute Burkart, who scores twice, and shows that two worlds collide with these teams. One team is doing well this season, scoring goals, winning games and are now even in the top half of the table. And GC is currently experiencing the sad side of football. Nine games in the second half of the season: 2 wins, 5 defeats, 5 goals and tied on points with second-to-last Lausanne-Sport. After the game there is talk of the “fight for survival”.
During the week, the Grasshoppers announced that Fredy Bickel had signed a temporary contract – with a focus on stabilization, among other things. But where does this stabilization start at GC? “I don’t think about my personality for a second, I think about the team,” said coach Berner after the game. It’s quite possible that other people in the club will be more concerned with it.

That was the last action of the game. FCW beats cantonal rivals GC 2-0.
The fouled Burkart immediately steps in himself. Hammel has nothing to hold on to, Burkart finds Winterthur’s luck at the right angle. This game is decided, 2-0 FCW.
Laws was the last man standing when the foul occurred and Cibelli consequently sent him off.
Burkart falls in the 16, Cibelli doesn’t hesitate for a second and decides on the penalty.
Randy Schneider is warned for time play.
Batista Meier takes over the task, but Winterthur can clarify.
GC is now vulnerable on defense and Winterthur knows how to use the space with its fast players. Hammel miraculously prevented the Burkart double.
All players are in half of Winterthur. Guests don’t want to leave here without points. But there is a lack of precision in their attacks, so the FCW can currently hit all the balls away before it becomes dangerous.
Adrian Durrer and Thibault Corbaz are thrown into this fight by Frame.
Tim Meyer and Dorian Babunski should ensure the equalizer here.
We’re already in the 85th minute. The players get a short break because Kameri has to be cared for in the Winterthur penalty area after a rencontre. We can prepare for a hot final phase.
It’s a wild back and forth. Now it’s the guests’ turn again. But the long ball to the top is a bit too long, Keller can get hold of the ball before the rushing Abubakar.

Things are now happening in quick succession. After the corner, Winterthur can switch quickly again. At the end of the counterattack, Ltaief finishes, but he lacks the necessary precision.
He can take a free kick from a half-left position and he does it really well. Keller makes every inch of himself and directs the ball around the post.
After the goal he is shown the yellow box – complaining is the verdict.
I was just about to comment that the game had flattened out a bit and then… Burkart hammered the ball into the right corner in the 73rd minute. There is also a bit of luck in this situation, as the ball comes to him from the opponent. The lead was not stolen, GC had a few chances, but only a few of them were of great quality.
Pascal Schürpf is off work. Théo Ndicka comes into the game for him – a positional change.
Tobers and Paskotsi have now swapped positions so that everything is the same with the Grasshoppers.
Gantenbein slides back one position. Burkart operates on the right wing and Baroan fits into Patrick Frame’s ensemble at the forefront. Tactical adjustments can also be seen at GC. Paskotsi seems to fit into the defensive formation, while Tobers moves into midfield.
